Ford (CVN 78) sumándose a la ofensiva militar lanzada por la Administración del presidente Donald Trump para desarticular redes de narcotráfico y crimen organizado transnacional en América Latina.
Las fotografías, tomadas el 13 de noviembre en el Atlántico, muestran al portaaviones acompañado por los destructores USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81), USS Mahan (DDG 72) y USS Bainbridge (DDG 96), así como por ocho cazas F/A-18E/F Super Hornet de los escuadrones de combate 31, 37, 87 y 213, operando en conjunto con un bombardero estratégico B-52 Stratofortress de la Fuerza Aérea de EE.UU.

Un despliegue sin precedentes en el hemisferio
El grupo de ataque del Gerald R. Ford, el portaaviones más grande y avanzado del mundo, ingresó el pasado 11 de noviembre al área de responsabilidad del Comando Sur (USSOUTHCOM), que abarca América Latina y el Caribe. La orden fue emitida por el Secretario de Guerra Pete Hegseth, en cumplimiento de la directiva presidencial para desmantelar organizaciones criminales transnacionales y contrarrestar el narcoterrorismo.
“La presencia reforzada de fuerzas estadounidenses en el área del Comando Sur aumentará nuestra capacidad para detectar, monitorear y desarticular actores ilícitos que comprometen la seguridad del hemisferio occidental”, declaró el portavoz principal del Pentágono, Sean Parnell.

Capacidad de combate y proyección de poder
Con más de 4.000 marinos y decenas de aeronaves tácticas a bordo, el Gerald R. Ford ofrece a los comandantes militares y líderes civiles una plataforma de proyección de poder sostenida en el mar, capaz de lanzar y recuperar aviones día y noche.
El grupo de ataque incluye:

El comandante del Comando Sur, Almirante Alvin Holsey, afirmó que el despliegue del Gerald R. Ford representa “un paso crítico para reforzar nuestra determinación de proteger la seguridad del hemisferio occidental y la seguridad del pueblo estadounidense”.
